REVIEW: Taylor Swift's 2012 Australian Tour
(Taylor Swift's Australian tour / Ashley Mar)
Australia had to wait a little longer than the rest of world to experience Taylor Swift's Speak Now tour... but the 22 year old didn't disappoint with the words of her song Enchanted echoing the spectacle that was - "This night is sparkling, don't you let it go."
The concert-musical hybrid had nine costume changes (the quickest of which happened in an incredible 20 seconds), elaborate sets designed by Taylor herself, a "snow storm", aerial artists as well as an indoor firework display during Dear John (a less-than-subtle message to her former flame John Mayer).
Fans (including the chaperone dads) were dressed as characters from Swift's songs and videos with the scent of Swift's perfume Wonderstruck filling much of the arena; undeniably more pleasant than other concerts.
The success of the Speak Now tour isn't only reflected in the faces of her fans, but also when it comes to the far more materialistic bank account statement. Taylor's was only just named Billboard magazine's Top Money Maker of 2012 beating the likes of U2, Lady Gaga and Adele with the Speak Now Tour grossing upwards of $130 million worldwide.
I understand if you're not a fan of Taylor Swift's music, but if you were to deny her raw musical talent, genuine stage presence and stunning looks... all you are is Mean.
PROS
Just in case there weren't enough pros already, getting to sit at Taylor's feet whilst she performed her 3 song interlude at the back of the stadium was extremely sweet. (Note- I managed to refrain from crying.)
CONS
The $80 hoodie was too expensive for me (a 21 year old male) to justify buying. Oh and the security guard giving water to the young crowd who declared "I love wetting girls" sickened me.
RATING
4.5/5
